DESIGN + BUILD

London House

Constructed in 1891, this was once a grand Victorian home based on the outskirts of South London.  With a history of alterations, the property underwent its first change in 1949, being split and divided into two semi-detached homes, of which this was on the western side. In 1968, the western semi was once again divided, this time into two flats, which involved considerable reconstruction to the interior of the property. The ceilings that had originally stood at a height of 4m were lowered to 2.8m to create a void for ceiling storage and service areas; a garage was added and an existing internal sVpace was converted into a workshop. The interior of the original Victorian home had now became almost unrecognisable

The aim of our clients was to turn the 430sqm of derelict property into a home for modern living, whilst retaining and re-instituting as many original features as possible. The owners wanted to create extra space with the addition of a large side extension, to include a new garage and kitchen; as well as a complete loft conversion to incorporate two large bedrooms with en-suites and a services plant room - it was important that the addition to the original property would look and feel of the Victorian era.  This was achieved through the design and all of the bespoke works - everything was fabricated to suit.  From the timber mouldings; to the cornicing;  the staircase and the library; to all the doors and windows throughout the property.  On viewing the property, you would see only a historic Victorian building, without realising the huge refurbishment that happened over the past two years.
