DESIGN + BUILD

London House

A collaborative project with the client that involved a full refurbishment of their large Edwardian property into a practical family home,  whilst still maintaining the charm and character of that era. The Edwardian period was characteristically influenced by the Arts and Crafts Movement, favouring simplicity, handmade and quality designs, crafted by local tradesmen. Following the ethos of the time, we thoughtfully matched and recreated many of the original interior features including, bespoke made timber and leaded light windows; intricately patterned cornices, detailed architraves and doors. To balance all of this period detail, the client chose a bright white palette mixed with green smoke, hick blue and slaked lime, that can only be described as elegant and fresh, which compliments the spacious rooms and also the natural light which floods into the house.

Throughout the property, London House Joinery had been commissioned to create several bespoke pieces of furniture, including dressers, book-cases and dressing rooms, all of which were considerately designed.  The cabinetry works perfectly with  the style of this family home,  with its pared-back feel, and  a priority towards an effective use of space, whilst still retaining the handcrafted quality that was so important to the Edwardians.

Finally, the garden has been both hard and soft landscaped with herbaceous borders surrounding a carefully-shaped lawn, and discreet planting hides the pool area, allowing the architectural elements of the pool room to blend into the garden - the perfect backdrop for this stylish home.
